WELCOME MESSAGE

Welcome!

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) will be hosting SEFS13 from 18th - 23rd June 2023 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.

Following on from the success of SEFS12, which was an entirely virtual event due to COVID19
travel restrictions, we are excited to be able to offer the opportunity for delegates to physically get together, collaborate and network for the first time in four years. With this in mind, SEFS13
promises to be a symposium like no other, and without doubt, a cause for celebration! To say we’re excited, is an understatement!

Your Hosts

Founded in 1929, the FBA has a rich history of scientific engagement, research and training in
freshwater science. Through contributions to global understanding, former scientists of the FBA paved the way for the extensive study of freshwaters that we see today.

With such an incredible heritage, the FBA remains at the very forefront of freshwater science with a comprehensive fellowship consisting of some of the finest freshwater scientists in the world.

As a founding member of the European Federation for Freshwater Sciences (EFFS), we look forward to hosting a symposium that not only brings together the European freshwater community for a conference, but fosters long-term, international collaboration and partnerships. We aim to deliver a comprehensive traditional program of parallel and poster sessions as well as exciting opportunities to experience the best of what England has to offer from its rich and diverse habitats  and exciting culture during our conference excursions.

Why Newcastle?

Based in the heart of the North East of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne is a vibrant city with a
beautiful quayside setting and a dazzling mix of modern city and stunning countryside. Global and local transport links are excellent, facilitating the exploration of the surrounding area which represents the very best in traditional and contemporary architecture. Newcastle is steeped in both history and culture. Visit an award-winning museum, marvel at the many iconic bridges across the Tyne, sample the famous Newcastle Brown Ale, or relax and unwind in one of the many diverse and stylish eateries across the city.

One thing’s for certain, this is an event not to be missed!

We look forward to welcoming you.
